You can now stream Apple Music for free on Three

Apple Music is the latest addition to Three's Go Binge platform that allows you to stream video and music to your phone from certain services without using any of your mobile data.

Go Binge is a specific plan available to Three customers who have taken the service, and Apple Music is set to join Deezer and Soundcloud as your ways to stream music directly to your phone.

You'll need to pay for the Apple Music subscription itself, but when you're streaming music from the service it won't use any of your data. You can also stream video from Netflix, TVPlayer, Dave, History or the Lifetime channel too.

Do you have it?

Whether you have Go Binge activated on your device depends on when you last upgraded or when you joined Three.

It's only available to those on recently-bought Advanced or SIM Only deals with 4GB of data or more a month as well as pay monthly broadband plans with 5GB or more.

If you're an existing Three customer and don't have Go Binge activated, you'll need to upgrade your contract to one with more data (but it has to be over 4GB) and possibly pay a surcharge as well.

Those who are still uncertain whether Go Binge is activated on their account can contact Three here to find out.

There have been some generous offers lately for this popular Lenovo laptop series. Any choice between the 4GB and 12GB RAM options should run multiple applications at once. Hard drive sizes vary from 256GB SSD to 1TB in regular form. Some options also include dedicated Nvidia GeForce GTX 940MX graphics.

Flex 10

At around £200, the HP Stream 14 is decent value if you're after something to cover the basics like web browsing or document editing. It's competitively priced again the cheaper Chromebooks out there despite the 14-inch screen and Windows 10 operating system.

There's some hefty grunt under the shell of these HP 250 G4 and G5 models  and there are some great prices this week. The Intel Pentium processor and 4GB/8GB of RAM mean this laptop will whip through pretty much any day-to-day activity you can throw at it without the juddering performance of cheaper laptops. Hell, it'll even have a decent crack at playing a few of the less demanding games out there.

Satellite Click Mini

A sturdy choice for a study laptop for school/college/uni. The HP Pavilion 15 has more power that the average pupil needs while keeping the costs sensible. If you're not needing extra power of an expensive laptop for video/photo editing, this is more than enough for web browsing, playing some tunes on Spotify and editing coursework.

Asus3

From afar, this laptop might be mistaken for a MacBook Pro which tells you a lot about its level of quality. Don't expect a full metal chassis at this price, but this is probably one of the best looking plastic bodies in its category. There are plenty of ports (old and new), 4GB of RAM and a massive 1TB hard drive. The cheapest models have a respectable i3 processor, but you can get the more powerful i5 versions for not much more if you need that extra kick. Asus saw it fit to include a DVD writer as well as a 15.6-inch full HD screen. Despite this large display and the presence of a numeric keypad, it's just a tad thicker and heavier than an Ultrabook.

Why not upgrade your storage with a cheap hard drive or SSD? See the best hard drive and SSD deals.

This is the newer version of the Asus Transformer Mini series. This upgrade includes a fingerprint sensor and double the RAM at 4GB for speedier performance. For your money, this is one of the most impressive two-in-one transformer models out there.

This is one of the larger Chromebook experience out there for someone looking for a full-sized laptop with an excellent screen at a super low cost. The 4GB of RAM running the Chrome OS is super fast and will allow you to really pile up tabs and apps without slowing down. The battery will easily last the best part of a day for most users too.

The best deals on our favourite laptops

We've reviewed loads of laptops over the years: we've seen the good ones, the great ones and the ones to avoid. Sometimes the best laptops pop up online at some truly deal-tastic prices. So in this section, we list the very best laptops out there and the best deals on each one.

Best laptops

The Dell XPS 13 is, bar none, the best laptop you can buy today. It features a revolutionary design that's astonishingly thin and light. Fitting a 13.3-inch screen into such a small frame means Dell has created a nearly borderless Infinity display. It's a powerful and long lasting machine even by today's Ultrabook standards. The XPS 13 comes outfitted with Intel's latest Skylake processors plus lighting, quick storage and memory, all while coming in at a very affordable starting price. For these reasons, it easily takes the top slot as the best Ultrabook, the best Windows laptop and the best overall laptop.

Looking for a quality gaming laptop but want to keep things under that unappealing £1000 mark? Then Dell has you covered with the Inspiron 15 Gaming range.

Best Chromebook

The Asus Chromebook Flip isn't perfect, but it's an impressive little piece of kit. Plus, it's so affordable that you might want to pick one up just to have a Chromebook on hand – even if you already own a MacBook or Windows laptop. Aside from the budget price tag, the Flip is one of the best-built Chromebooks to blaze the trail onward for more convertibles. Touchscreen functionality feels more logical, with a screen that actually rotates. The Flip meets all the core tenants of an ideal Chrome OS device.

This 10-inch hybrid comes packing a surprising amount of goods considering its small size. It's outfitted with an HD screen and more than enough power to get you through a simple day of web browsing and even image editing. When you're ready kick back with some media streaming, you can pop off the 10-inch tablet.

Best gaming laptops

The Asus Strix GL502 is undoubtedly one of the best gaming laptops around for gaming in 1080p. It'll run with the settings cranked with games like Overwatch not dipping below 60fps. The battery life isn't the best, but the display, performance and built-in sound system more than make up for it.

Lenovo has crafted a brilliant, forward-thinking device that could very well create a subcategory in computing all of its own. The modest specs hold it back from taking on the big boys in terms of raw power, but the innovative digital touchpad keyboard and drawing surface look like trendsetters to us. The Android version is currently about £100 cheaper than the Windows one.

cheap surface pro deals

Can a tablet really replace your laptop or home PC? That's still up for debate, but the best tablet trying to make that happen is the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 - and it does a fine job with the full blown version of Windows 10, an integrated kickstand and optional keyboard attachment. Great for for creative professionals, students and everyday folks alike - it's only the premium price that push it down the list, but if you're willing to pay for it, you're getting a lot of power. A LOT.

The 13 best horror games on PC and consoles to play right now

Update: It's Halloween weekend and to get you in the spooky spirit, several digital game stores are hosting horror game sales.

If you're looking to draw the curtains, grab some candy and settle in with an appropriately frightening title this Halloween we suggest you take a look at the PlayStation Store and Steam sales taking place right now.

There are more than a few of our favorite games from this list in the sale so this could be the perfect chance to pick them up.

The weather is getting colder, the nights are getting darker and the leaves are taking on a blood red hue. Fall is here, and that means Halloween is fast approaching.

Some of us get into the spirit of the season of scares more than others, but there really is no time of year better suited to picking up the best that the horror genre has to offer. While there are plenty of horror movies out there (and we've gathered together the best of them here) games offer something particularly special in that they put you in the driving seat.

When you're the one holding the controller and making the choices that could mean life or death, every moment is tense and significant. It's a lot harder to laugh at on-screen characters making stupid and cliched decisions when you're the one making them.

We've gotten better at scaring ourselves than ever and games have matured beyond simple gore and jump scares. Though these elements still play an important role in the genre, our approach to horror has more nuance than ever.

What follows are what we think are 13 of the best horror games that you can play on PC and consoles today. We think we've picked an appropriate number. Go ahead and spook yourselves silly.

  • Do you just want to kick back and watch a horror movie instead? Here's our list of the 13 best horror movies.

Little Nightmares is a great example of a game that manages to inspire fear and disgust without using traditional blood and gore.

The game puts you in control of a young girl called Six and has you navigate a a frightening world that's far too big for her, populated by a wide array of giant and grotesque creatues.

You don't have to fight these creatures, you just have to sneak around world and hide to get past them in what is absolutely a platforming puzzle game.

Little Nightmares is a great horror game in that it perfectly creates a feeling of helplessness while making it clear that you're capable of escaping. It takes familiar and the domestic areas of the home which should be comforting and turns them on their head by making them repulsive and unsafe.

Little Nightmares can be played now on PC, Xbox One and PS4

We've all watched a teen slasher movie at some point (it's hard to escape them) but they're surprisingly uncommon in the gaming world. Probably because it'd be so hard to get it right.

Fortunately, Until Dawn is a game that tried the trope and got it right by combining both game and movie elements.

This PS4 exclusive game follows a group of teenagers going on a trip to a remote cabin in the mountains where, shockingly, there's a frightening presence interested in picking them off one by one.

It's up to you to make decisions for the characters in the game which means whether or not they live or die is entirely down to you. Make the wrong decision and your favorite could meet a very grizzly end. Until Dawn is a great horror game because although it'll genuinely scare you, you get a sense it's having a lot of fun doing it.

Until Dawn can be played now on PlayStation 4

After so long away, Resident Evil's return could have been something of a disaster but fortunately for fans of the series the seventh installment was a great success.

Resident Evil 7 was a much needed breath of fresh air for the series, bringing in a modern understanding of both horror movies and games while managing to retain that very distinct Resident Evil feel.

By moving the perspective from third to first person it also made the fear feel closer and more immediate and it also made it possible to include a genuinely frightening VR experience to the game.

With a great story and tight gameplay, Resident Evil 7 was the addition to the horror series we all wanted and feared we would get. Read our full review here

You can play Resident Evil on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Dead Space, three games published by EA and developed by Visceral Games, is among the contemporary classic horror games. The story, first set on an abandoned space vessel (duh), takes terrifying twists and turns – most of which involving zombified aliens waiting around said turns.

Following the formula established by Ridley Scott's classic "Alien" certainly helped – besides, the first Alien game to pull it off didn't release for another few years. (See all about that one in a few slides.)

All in all, Dead Space was one of the pioneering horror games of the modern era, inspiring a renaissance in the genre that hasn't yet died down. That comes down to some simple tenants: a compelling story, believable visuals and proper pacing.

You can play Dead Space on Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows.

Released in mid-2012, Slender is based around long pauses followed by sudden movements that are totally unexpected. In other words: jump scares. Essentially, it is a horror film in video game form. It's a bit cheap, but – boy – does it work.

Your mission is simple: Don't get killed, collect the eight pieces of a book and run. The "thing" pursuing you – known as Slender Man (directly inspired by the meme) – is a faceless, eerily (unnaturally) lanky man in a pinstriped suit.

Basically, he's the perfect horror game villain.

The game relies heavily around the player having virtually no resources beyond a flashlight and the ability to jog. Naturally, both of which are limited for obvious reasons, making escape all the more difficult.

Overall, Slender is a fun, not-so-clever horror game that is guaranteed to scare you senseless nevertheless.

You can play Slender: The Eight Pages on Windows and OS X.

While Left 4 Dead came first, the second version saw Valve nail original creators Turtle Rock Studios' vision. Set in a world overrun by zombies, the game follows four characters in their mission to survive through several cooperative and competitive online modes, which – in conjunction with mods on PC – make for a veritable ton of replayability.

Our friends at PC Gamer have ranked it among their top FPS games of all time. We're pretty certain that most PC players would agree with that.

The game was originally banned in Australia due to its graphic content, a de facto seal of approval, if you will. The ban has since been lifted, and so lovers of hardcore horror games are sure to rejoice in its gross, lengthy scenes of devastation and destruction worldwide.

You can play Left 4 Dead 2 on Xbox 360, Windows, OS X and Linux.

Outlast and Outlast 2, developed by Red Barrels Studio, are now must-plays in the horror genre. Both games put players in control of investigative journalists but while the first is set in an asylum for the insane, the sequel takes place in the much more open location of a dilapidated rural part of Northern Arizona.

What helps make the Outlast games, well, last is that they follow a cardinal rule of horror games: don't empower your players too much, otherwise it's no longer a horror game.

Offering a refreshing break from zombies and aliens, Outlast and its sequel are fine games to play if you want a longer – and arguably scarier – break from your average gun-toting jump scare-fest.

You can play Outlast and Outlast 2 on Xbox One, PS4, Windows, OS X and Linux.

Of the countless games to use this precious creative license over the years, developer Creative Assembly is the first to actually create a game that lives up to it. The game takes place 15 years following the events of the 1979 Ridley Scott film, putting players into the space boots of Ellen Ripley's daughter, Amanda Ripley.

Taking on a first-person perspective and squaring you off with a single xenomorph hunting you across a vast space station in darkness, Isolation nails what it felt like watching the film for the first time. The vibe is so much of what makes an amazing horror game, and Isolation feels as if you're playing through the movie.

Throw in excruciatingly clever artificial intelligence afforded the alien, and an absolutely gripping virtual reality experiment, and you have the trappings of a modern horror classic.

You can play Alien: Isolation on Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, Windows, OS X and Linux.

SOMA, released in 2015 by Amnesia developer Frictional Games, is a thoughtful – and thought-provoking – game that could easily be considered an interactive film. Are you sensing a theme here at all?

The game contains neither zombies nor aliens, but instead a shift between 2015 and 2104, when humans have been wiped out by a comet and what's left of humanity must fight to survive underwater in an abandoned research facility gone rogue.

While SOMA may not be as outright scary as, say, Amnesia, it is still a fantastic game, thanks to its brooding atmosphere, surprisingly fresh subject matter (for horror games) and incredible audio design.

You can play SOMA on PS4, Windows, OS X and Linux.

Five Nights at Freddy's is – undoubtedly – a different kind of horror game. With a premise seeing players "surviving" a night in a kid-themed pizza parlor, it's unlike almost anything else in the genre.

However, it's a surprisingly fun game to play, once you can get past the terrifying visage of an animatronic teddy bear guitarist come to life in the dead of night. Generally, players combat these twisted, possessed figures with security cameras – what? Poltergeists don't like leaving evidence.

The game is the work of Scott Cawthon, an independent developer, who released it in 2014. Since then, there have been three more direct sequels, all of which have received positive reviews. Talk about staying power.

You can play Five Nights at Freddy's on Windows, iOS and Android.

As the name would suggest, this game is about forgetting things – but the only thing the player will not forget is how damn scary this game is. The game is based around a series of puzzles, which the player can opt-out of with dramatic consequences (usually a gruesome death).

Made by Frictional Games and preceding SOMA, Amnesia follows a protagonist – i.e. you, from the first person perspective – trying to figure out what is going on after waking up in a torturous dungeon. If you don't, you get slaughter by some disgusting, slack-jawed humanoid creature, and that's that.

Our friends at PC Format once said, "[it] isn't a game, [but] a trip into the human psyche's darker spaces. Not for the faint of heart, but horror junkies will lap it up." You can't really give much higher praise than that.

You can play Amnesia: The Dark Descent on Windows, OS X and Linux.

One corner of the gaming medium that has never managed to pull off horror well is two-dimensional, or 2D, games. With Superflat Games' Lone Survivor, that changes now.

Driven by its unique gameplay style and ambiguous character placement, the game is immersive, curious and surprisingly unsettling given its visuals. The ending, too, is a break from gaming convention and just highlights how different Lone Survivor is from the pack.

In this game, you are the last survivor of an epidemic that has to wear a mask at all times in order to survive. There are so many unanswered questions in the game – for instance, the lead character's name – that it becomes a horror-within-a-horror: you jump at every attack and at your own revelations.

You can play Lone Survivor on PS4, PS Vita, Wii U, Windows, OS X and Linux.

The Evil Within comes from the mind behind Resident Evil, Shinji Mikami and if that doesn't give you reason enough to pick it up, we're not sure what will. This is a third-person survival horror that'll pull you into a nightmarish world populated by grotesque and frightening enemies.

Now is a great time to pick this title up, too, as there's a sequel coming on October 13 2017 which will see its protagonist return in a new and sure to be equally as terrifying story. You can read everything we know about The Evil Within 2 right here.

Best PS4 games: 30 must-play titles

If you're a PlayStation 4 owner looking for new games you're certainly never going to be short of options. With an extensive and diverse catalog of titles behind it, your biggest challenge with this console is likely to be narrowing down your options to find the game that's most worthy of your time and money.

Thankfully, TechRadar is here to help you with that challenge. To make the sheer amount of choice less intimidating we've put together this best of list so that you can spend less time shopping and more time playing.

In this list you'll find everything from new platform-exclusives like Horizon: Zero Dawn, The Last Guardian and Uncharted 4 to highly popular ports of PS3 games like The Last of Us and Grand Theft Auto 5. We like to think we've found something that will suit everyone's tastes.

In constructing our round-up we've tried to cover a variety of game styles and genres from big to small, single-player to multiplayer. So whether you've owned a PS4 since launch, or whether you're a newcomer to the system, you should find something new to love in our 25-item-strong, best-of-the-best list.

(P.S. If you can't get them all right now, this list is a great reminder which games you should pick up during Black Friday!)

This is the PS4's next rising star

Horizon: Zero Dawn is a PlayStation 4 exclusive that owners of the console absolutely should not miss.

Set in an aesthetically prehistoric post-apocalyptic world inhabited by robot dinosaurs, the game puts players in the shoes of Aloy who hunts these creatures and scraps them for parts. It's an interesting premise to say the least but it works.

Our own review classes it as a Play It Now title and although it has a few shortcomings we think it's an huge open world game that gets it right. It's a "must-own game of 2017" with visuals that will be particularly impressive for PS4 Pro owners.

A flawed masterpiece

The Last Guardian has been in the works for ten years and now that we've finally played it we think it deserves to be on this list, in spite of its flaws.

The game has moments of brilliance that will appeal to fans of puzzle solving and platforming. However, it's often pulled back from true greatness by some technical bugs that range from an annoying camera to frustrating companion AI.

Still, players with patience and a willingness to see past some of these more annoying technical aspects will be rewarded with an unforgettably stunning and emotional gaming experience.

A chilling return to form

Your gaming collection isn't really complete if it doesn't have a quality horror title and if we had to suggest one it'd be the newest installment in the Resident Evil franchise.

Resident Evil is the franchise that put survival-horror games on the map and though it lost its way slightly in later titles, the newest game is a return to form for Capcom.

By going back to the survival-horror basics and getting them dead on, Capcom has made Resident Evil 7 a genuinely frightening and exhilarating gaming experience. If you have the stomach for the gore, it's absolutely worth playing.

The PlayStation 4 version of the game has an added bonus for PS VR owners – a virtual reality adaption of the game which Capcom has absolutely nailed.  However, you'll need to be brave to play it all the way through.

Don't miss our full review of the game.

They had the technology to rebuild him, better than before

The original Titanfall was a great game, but unfortunately it didn't come to the PlayStation. Fortunately, its sequel, Titanfall 2, improves on it every conceivable way: the motion is more fluid, there are more distinct titans to choose from and, hold onto your hats here, there's actually a single-player campaign that might take the cake for the best first-person shooter story of the year.

This game's pedigree is inherited from one of this generation's smartest and most unusual shooters. The original Titanfall married ninja-fast on-foot combat to the gloriously thuggish thrill of piloting giant mechs, which are summoned from orbit a few minutes into each match.

The skill with which Respawn has balanced this mix of styles in the sequel is remarkable – Titans have firepower in excess but they're easy to hit, and maps offer plenty of places for infantry to hide. These ideas coalesce into one of this year's most remarkable entries in the genre and is well-deserving its own shot in the spotlight as well as a Game of the Year nomination.

The end of the long and dusty road

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End hasn't been out for very long, but we can already tell that this is going to be a Game of the Year contender come December. The game was tasked with an impossible task by bringing a satisfying close to Naughty Dog's classic adventure series and delivered something well above our expectations. Exceptionally high production values, an engaging story about a wayward brother and an adventure to remember, Uncharted 4 has them all in spades.

Though Naughty Dog's Uncharted journey has finally reached its destination, you're guaranteed to treasure the memories it created forever.

If you're a PS4 owner, it would be criminal not to take this ride.

Line

Naughty Dog's best, made better

Many games have offered us post-apocalyptic visions of the future, but none have been as brutal, as believable, or as touching as Joel and Ellie's story.

It was near-perfect on PS3, but with current-gen's increased performance ceiling Naughty Dog found ways to ramp up the visual fidelity to 'drop the controller and stare' levels. A radical tonal departure from Uncharted's jovial treasure-hunting escapades, The Last Of Us Remastered demonstrates the California studio's ability to strike a darker mood, populating the overgrown ruins of its setting with a cast characterised by murky morals but still getting you to care for them like your own bessies.

Lara's origin story finally makes its way to the PS4

Has it really been 20 years since we first saw Lara in action? How the time flies when you're upgrading from a 32-bit resolution to upwards of 4K. But no matter how many years go by, Lara still manages to find a handhold in our hearts.

Despite being the sequel to a prequel about the young life of the Lara Croft, Rise of the Tomb Raider feels like the pinnacle of the series. The reboot which saw a brave new direction for the franchise seemed a lot of the time to be little more than a bit of light Uncharted cosplay, but Rise is a far more accomplished game.

There's now a genuine open world which feels like there is always something to do, and something more than just harvesting up collectibles in exchange for a light dusting of XP. There are also tombs. Yes, that might seem a fatuous thing to say given the name, but the previous game gave them short shrift. In Rise though they are deeper and more plentiful. Plus, on top of everything else, it's got VR support, which is pretty neat considering that there aren't many PlayStation VR titles around these days.

Welcome back to PlayStation, Lara, we've missed you.

Line

The homecoming we've waited seven years for

Update: It's worth noting that Fallout 4 has now received the update that will allow you to install and play with mods. As if the game wasn't exciting enough you can now change it up to make sure you never get bored. Visit Bethesda's site to check out exactly what you can download for your game.

All things considered, this is one of the best games Bethesda has made. It ticks all the boxes: a massive, detail-oriented open-world; still-fantastic tenets of looting and shooting; a story filled with intriguing side quests and subplots that feel like they matter; and of course a classic soundtrack that brings it all to life.

In many ways it's the game we've been waiting for since Fallout 3 steered the series away from its top-down role-playing roots. Not only is the world itself wider, but the plot is better, and more digestible, than any of the games before it. There's still a sense of mystery about what's happening but you no longer have to dig forever and a day through terminals to piece it together.

Welcome home, stranger.

Line

Hope you don't have a swear jar

From Software's enigmatic and notoriously challenging Souls titles all hold critical and fan acclaim, but none are as stylistically interesting as the quasi-Industrial era Bloodborne.

It plays like an RPG set indelibly on a hidden difficulty mode with all the helpful text pop-ups removed, which is to say it requires more than a modicum of patience from the player.

But that's the point – in Bloodborne, you get out what you put into it. Victory's all the more rewarding when you've watched your enemy, memorised his attack patterns, struck at the opportune moment and prevailed via the game's impeccable melee combat.

Line

Stories don't come bigger than this

Geralt didn't have the smoothest of entries to PS4, but after some heavy patching and a lot of angry words about visual downgrades, we're left with an RPG boasting tremendous scope and storytelling.

Oh, and combat. And don't forget Gwent, the in-game card game. And there's the crafting to get stuck into. And the alchemy.

You're rarely short of things to entertain yourself with in The Witcher 3's quasi-open world, then, and all the better that you're in a universe that involves the supernatural without leaning on the same old Tolkien fantasy tropes. Invigorating stuff.

Line

Our 2016 Game of the Year

Overwatch has without a doubt been one of our favorite games to come out of the last year.

It's a classic team arena shooter from Blizzard that sets two six-person teams of wildly different characters against each other in a bright and cartoonish science fiction universe.

Great graphics, tight maps, and a good roster of characters to enjoy playing. Overwatch is good old fashioned fun and we thoroughly recommend it.

Line

Of heists and men...

Not only is it the best sandbox game on the platform, GTA V is also the best golf game, the best tennis sim, the undisputed virtual yoga champ, one of the best racers… it's even a pretty serviceable MMO.

We're used to scale and scope from Grand Theft Auto, but what Trevor, Franklin, and Michael bring us is a staggeringly well-realised city seen from three entirely different perspectives. Trevor, the maniacal rampage killer whom we discover to be in all of us when we play a Rockstar game; Franklin, the classic rags-to-riches character with street smarts and the ability to pull off a bandana; and Michael, the troubled criminal with a dysfunctional family and a beer gut to show for his life of violence.

However you play GTA V – a multiplayer muckabout, a story-driven third-person actioner, a flight sim – it reveals itself to be the best game on both this generation and the last.

Line

Out of this world online multiplayer

Taking the place of the original Destiny on this list is, of course, its sequel Destiny 2. With its original game, Bungie managed to create a huge triple-A success as well as a cult hit.

Now, however, it's opening up to the masses and anyone that felt like they couldn't jump on the Destiny band wagon the first time shouldn't miss the opportunity to do so now.

This huge online multiplayer shooter will reel you in with its universe, single-player story, satisfying gameplay and addictive online modes. In our full Destiny 2 review, we call Destiny 2 "the Destiny you know, and the Halo you used to love, all in one loot-filled package."

If you're just getting started, it's also worth taking a peek at our handy tips and tricks guide which will allow you to hit the ground running.

A refreshing jump back in time

In the latest Battlfield game, DICE takes players back in time to World War One and by doing so completely rejuvinates the once stagnating franchise.

Battlefield 1's historical setting helps it to stand apart from the rest of the modern military shooters on the market with all new weapons, vehicles, and level designs that feel fresh and capture the chaos and brutality of war.

The game offers a poignant and entertaining single-player campaign that sets a new standard for first-person shooter. Broken into six sections, each following a different character and front line location, the campaign never feels dull or repetitive.

The single player campaign even feeds neatly into Battlefield 1's multiplayer mode which, while familiar, also benefits from the much-needed breath of life that the change in setting gives.

Graphically impressive, entertaining, and sometimes touching, Battlefield 1 is a return to form for the series.

A smart, stealthy, steampunk adventure

Following the surprise 2012 hit Dishonored wasn't going to be an easy task, but Dishonored 2 has more than lived up to its expectations.

Picking up 15 years after the events of the original, Dishonored 2 takes players back to the Victorian Steampunk city of Dunwall. This time, though, you have the choice of whether or not you want to play as the original title's protagonist Corvo, or his equally-skilled protegee Emily.

Dishonored 2 doesn't differ wildly from the first game, but there was nothing wrong with Dishonored in the first place. What we get is a vastly improved and close to perfected take on it.

Anyone who likes their games filled with atmosphere, character, and a bit of wit and intelligence will find Dishonored 2 worth picking up.

Multiplayer doesn't get any better than this

We do a lot of whining about Call of Duty. We roll our eyes and joke how there's a new one every year and how there's, like, no difference. We say all these things and yet every year we know how we're going to spend the month of November: fragging friends and family in the latest Call of Duty game.

Black Ops 3 deserves a spot in your gaming armory for two reasons: it has awesome multiplayer - and there's almost no better way to blow off steam than going 10 kills in a row and calling in an airstrike on a team of people you've never met before but suddenly want to beat in the worst way imaginable - plus, it has one of the greatest game modes ever conceived, zombies.

If shooting zombies straight in the face doesn't you feel like it's money well spent then nothing will.

Still the best football sim money can buy

FIFA is, for many console owners, a highly anticipated annual event. The latest and arguably greatest installment in the football sim series has arrived in the form of FIFA 18.

Whether you're looking to play against others online, build up a management career on your own or play a cinematic story mode that'll give you an insight into the dramatic life of a premier league footballer, FIFA has a game mode just for you.

The best thing is, there's always more than enough to throw yourself into and agonize over until the next game rolls around with further incremental improvements that'll convince you to upgrade.

Seeking fun, weirdness and excellent combat? Look no further

If you want to play a game that will feel different to anything else you've played recently, we heartily recommend NieR: Automata.

Though it's a sequel to 2010 game Nier, you don't have to have played the first game to enjoy this one. Set in a dystopian future, the story of the game revolves around a war between machines created by alien invaders and the remnants of humanity. Humanity has fled Earth to seek refuge on the moon but has sent combat droids down to fight for them.

You play as one of these droids, 2B, accompanied by another droid called 9S. Combat in this game is intensely satisfying, the game world is stunning with a huge sense of scale and the story is strange (sometimes to a fault) but incredibly entertaining. You won't be disappointed.

There's always time for a little game...

Life is Strange is emblematic of episodic gaming, beautifully crafted. Sure, Telltale's games have been great examples too, but the writing and themes of Dontnod Entertainment's tale of teenage angst and temporal superpowers is something else.

With a story where your actions have real, and far-reaching, consequences it can be rather tense when it comes to making your choice. And trying to figure out all the possible consequences given the time-shifting fun makes them all the more tricky.

How many Snakes does it take to change a lightbulb?

Okay, so Hideo Kojima's last game for Konami - and his last ever Metal Gear game - might be a little tough for the MGS n00b to get to grips with, but it's still one of the best stealth-action games ever crafted. The open-world shenanigans will satisfy all your behind-enemy-lines / Rambo fantasies and probably confuse you with crazy plot twists and a million characters all with the same gravel-toned voices.

But hey, that's all part of its charm, right?

DC delights

DC's films can be hit or miss, but its games are proving to be consistently entertaining. A prime example of this is Injustice 2 – a superhero game done right.

If you've been looking for a good fighting game to get stuck into on your PS4 this is one you might want to consider picking up. It offers excellent mechanics, a genuinely enjoyable single player story, depth, and (most importantly) it allows you to pit your favorite DC characters fist to fist.

Whether you're a casual button masher or a seasoned fighter looking for intricacy, you'll find something here.

Make sure you check out our tips and tricks guide to get started on a strong foot.

Soothing simulation

It was massively successful on PC, so it makes sense that Stardew Valley has brought its relaxing exploration and farming gameplay to consoles.

In the game you play a new citizen who's come to the town of Stardew Valley to start a new life as a farmer. You get your own land, crops and animals to take care of but every day you're free to do whatever you like in the town.

Stardew Valley is definitely a title that'll appeal to those who have enjoyed games like Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon as it's pretty much perfect for curling up and sinking hours of your weekend into it. It's also very reasonably priced on the Xbox Live store.

Multiplayer madness

Looking for a game that you can dip into between those long-winded RPGs? Take a gander at the online extravaganza that is Rocket League.

Cars essentially playing football shouldn't really work but thanks to Rocket League's outstanding mechanics and physics system it really does. You play with and against others online in matches of varying numbers and though each match only last 5 minutes so it should be easy to break away. Invariably, though, you'll find yourself hours later murmuring about winning "just one more". Rocket League has been available for a while now and as a result it's built up a dedicated and skilled community. Prepare yourself for a challenge.

The JRPG genre at its best

Final Fantasy 12 is one of the most underappreciated and anomalous Final Fantasy games, first released in 2006. With this remake, Square Enix gives players a chance to take a second look at the game, this time at a games that runs much more smoothly with less obvious faults and cracks.

In The Zodiac Age you'll find a beautiful game world, fast and exciting combat, and a sweeping storyline that's an example of the JRPG genre at its best. Whether you're a fan of Final Fantasy or not, 12 is enough of a series outlier that it's a good place to dip in and see what you might be missing. It's a PlayStation 4 exclusive, too.

Say hello to the triple indie

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is developer Ninja Theory's first attempt at publishing its own game and it's quite an achievement. The game follows Senua, a Celtic warrior suffering from psychosis who travels to Hell to rescue her lost lover.

The game uses an interesting mix of binaural audio and innovative visual techniques to communicate Senua's experience with her psychosis to the player, resulting in a game that's likely to be quite different from anything else you've played recently.

Disturbing, insightful and extremely enjoyable to play, this is a game worth taking a look at.

Making the old feel new again

After a year away, Assassin's Creed is back and it's bigger and better than ever. In Assassin's Creed Origins you go back to ancient Egypt, before the brotherhood and before the Templars, where you play as the original assassin Bayek.

Assassin's Creed is a series that was growing increasingly stale but with Origins the formula has been refreshed with new RPG mechanics, story-driven side quests and a far more free-flowing combat system.

Whether you're new to the series or a fatiguing fan, Assassin's Creed Origins is absolutely worth playing as it's the strongest installment we've seen in years.

Gran Turismo drives onto the PS4

Fans of the Gran Turismo series will welcome Sport with open arms as it finally cruises onto the PS4 platform. If you're looking for a racing simulator that looks great and handles like a dream, Gran Turismo Sport is well worth picking up.

The inclusion of a virtual reality mode is a real bonus for PlayStation VR owners, too.

Charted territory

If you thought the Uncharted series was over, you were very wrong. Though Nathan Drake's story is now finished, we're glad to see the globe-trotting treasure-hunting adventures continue with former supporting characters Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross.

The Lost Legacy isn't a full Uncharted game in the traditional sense. Instead it's being pitched as a spin-off title that's slightly shorter in length and lower in price. It is, however, an excellent addition to the series. TechRadar's own Jon Porter likened it to adding an extra verse to your favorite song

Frustrating but brilliant

If you're a fan of Star Wars and you want to immerse yourself in its universe you should look no further than Star Wars Battlefront. This online multiplayer achievement from DICE is visually stunning and authentically Star Wars. Fly the Millennium Falcon, play as your favorite Star Wars characters and explore iconic locations alongside your friends.

In our full review of the game we said it "succeeds at being a Star Wars game like no other before it." That said, Star Wars Battlefront II isn't far off at all and it looks set to improve on this title in every way.

The boy band is back in town

If you're intrigued by the Final Fantasy series but you're not sure where to start, Final Fantasy 15 is a reasonable entry point. Its gameplay is a mix of past and present, dropping the traditional turn-based final Fantasy combat for faster real-time mechanics. T

With a crazy storyline, genuinely excellent and funny characters, and some truly stunning battles Final Fantasy 15 is a rewarding and enjoyable way to engage with the Final Fantasy series, even if it's definitely not its best title. You can read our full review here.

A local newspaper in England got a tip-off about 'big news' from America, 25 minutes before JFK was assassinated

JFK assassination

  • An FBI memo notes an anonymous call to the Cambridge News ahead of the shooting.
  • A reporter was told to watch of for "big news" 25 minutes before President Kennedy was shot in Dallas, Texas.
  • A record of the call was disseminated at the highest levels of the FBI.
  • Read the full transcript of the note below.

A local newspaper in England became an unlikely participant in the story of President John F Kennedy's assassination when US security services noticed a bizarre tip-off, which came to a reporter shortly before the shooting.

An FBI document linked to the killing reveals that a journalist for the Cambridge News was told to expect a major story from the US, 25 minutes before Kennedy was shot.

The unnamed journalist received a call from an anonymous tipster on November 22, 1963, telling them to "call the American Embassy in London for some big news." The caller then hung up.

Twenty-five minutes later, President Kennedy was fatally shot as his motorcade drove through downtown Dallas in Texas.

JFK memo Cambridge News

The existence of the memo suggests that the FBI was at least considering the possibility that somebody in England knew about the assassination in advance. However, there is scant supporting evidence for this theory.

The information was disseminated at the highest levels of the FBI, and was ultimately sent to the agency's director, J Edgar Hoover.

According to calculations by the security services, the call came at 6.05 p.m. in England, which was 12.05 p.m. in Dallas Texas, the site of the assassination. President Kennedy was shot at 12.30 p.m.

However, the news would not be widely heard in Britain for around half an hour, as the technology of the 1960s struggled to transmit the news as quickly as possible.

When the Cambridge News reporter realised what had happened, he told the local police about the call. They passed it on to MI5, Britain's domestic security agency. From there it was passed on to the CIA, who told the FBI.

The note said that the reporter had never received an anonymous call like it before, and described him as trustworthy ("a sound and loyal person with no security record").

The document is publicly viewable on the website of the US National Archives, after a mass release of files on the order of President Donald Trump.

However, the document was released in a list of documents marked "formerly released in part", suggesting that it may have been available earlier, but had simply not been noticed.

The role of the newspaper appeared to come as a surprise to the current staff of the Cambridge News. Its political correspondent published a photograph the morning after the news came out of colleagues scouring the newspaper's archives for more information about the mysterious call:

Here's a transcript of the memo:

FOR: Director, Federal Bureau of Investigation

SUBJECT: Assassination of President Kennedy - reported Anonymous Telephone Message

1. The following cable from the CIA Station in London was reported orally to Mr. Samuel Pepich at 0930 on 23 November:

2. The British Security Service (MI-5) has reported that at 1805 GMY on 22 November an anonymous telephone call was made in Cambridge, England, to the senior reporter of the Cambridge News. The caller said only that the Cambridge News reporter should call the American Embassy in London from some big news and then hung up.

3. After the word of the President's death was received the reporter informed the Cambridge police of the anonymous call and the police informed MI-5. The important point is that the call was made, according to MI-5 calculations, about 25 minutes before the President was shot. The Cambridge reporter had never received a call of this kind before and MI-5 state that he is known to them as a sound and loyal person with no security record.

4. MI-5 noted that similar anonymous phone calls of a strangely coincidental nature have been received by persons in the U.K. over the past year, particularly in connection with the case of Dr. Ward.

5. The British Security Service stated its desire to assist in every possible way on any follow-up investigations required with the United Kingdom.

FOR THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR (PLANS): James Angleton

The Morning After: Friday, October 27th 2017

Hey, good morning! You look fabulous.

Depending on your interests, today is possibly iPhone X day, Super Mario Odyssey day, Stranger Things season two day, Assassin's Creed Origins day or Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus day. But it's definitely Friday -- we checked.

'Another evolution of a perfect formula.''Super Mario Odyssey' review

The first big Mario platformer for Switch is here, and it looks like a winner. Aaron Souppouris describes Odyssey as a combination of Mario 64 and Galaxy. While it doesn't follow Breath of the Wild's lead as a departure from the series' norm, earlier Mario games provide a solid base so that it doesn't have to. New features like fast travel, maps and Cappy are just icing on the cake

So did you get one?iPhone X pre-orders are open -- but there's already a wait

If you're looking for Apple's $1,000+ OLED iPhone, then the easiest way to get one is probably by pre-ordering now. Of course, if you haven't ordered already then there could be a few weeks of waiting (beyond the November 3rd launch date) ahead, but we're sure you were up at 3 AM with the Apple Store app open.

It's a work in progress.Google responds to Pixel 2 issues

Meanwhile, early-adopting Pixel 2 owners have been complaining about some issues with its display (especially on the larger XL model) as well as weird noises. Google has responded to those concerns, saying that a new vibrant mode is coming to make the colors pop on those OLED screens, and that software tweaks will help stem image retention. Either way, it's extending the base warranty on all Pixel 2 phones to two years instead of one. Oh, and as for those weird noises -- a software fix is coming, but for now affected owners can squash it by disabling NFC.

Live in the cloud.Google Pixelbook review

This Pixelbook bears no resemblance to the original Pixel, but it's cut from similar cloth. It's still one of the nicest laptops you can find -- and it's still running Chrome OS. Despite mediocre battery life, its software and hardware, Nathan Ingraham says, justify the high price for users who don't absolutely need a Windows or Mac PC.

Where does Sony's headset stand?PSVR, one year later

One year after the debut of the PSVR, Sony hasn't publicly updated its sales figures since June. There are plenty of games, however, with more than 100 VR experiences available and 60 more expected by early 2018. So, will the intrigue last long enough for VR to gain a significant foothold on consoles, or have we already seen the best of this accessory?

Desktop-class speed and graphics in ultrathin notebooks.AMD stuffs Radeon Vega graphics into its Ryzen Mobile chips

AMD is setting its sights on laptops with these upcoming Ryzen Mobile chips. And, as you might expect, they'll feature integrated Vega graphics. AMD's goal? To power ultrathin laptops that can still play a few rounds of Overwatch.

But wait, there's more...
