No sound notification when I receive a text message?

When I receive a text message there is no sound notification on my galaxy s6, att carrier. I have checked my sound notification settings and it is turned on. This issue just started the other day. I do have other sound notifications just not text. I use the stock text app that came with the phone. The notification pop up also does not come up when my phone is locked or on the home screen.
