Adobe has announced a fairly large update to Lightroom across all platforms. It now has two products essentially, with Lightroom transitioning to “Lightroom Classic” and Adobe debuting a new Lightroom program that is now mostly cloud-based, which is going to work better across all platforms. This includes Mac, Windows, iOS, Android and even the web. Now when it comes to mobile, Adobe says that Lightroom has gotten quite a few updates, including support for the Pixelbook that Google announced earlier this month.
For Android, Adobe has optimized Lightroom for Android Oreo (and on iOS, this update has been optimized for iOS 11). Adobe also mentions that you can now selectively enhance photos using the Selective Brush. Lightroom on both iOS and Android have gotten the ability to search through the photos you have synced on your account. Lightroom is using Adobe Sensei to tag and keyword your images for you. What this does, is it allows you to search through your photos based on what is in the photos. So you could search for “sunset” and get all of the photos you’ve taken that have a sunset in them. This is something that Google Photos already does, but for those that are heavily into Adobe’s ecosystem, it is a great feature to have available. Lightroom does also have support for HDR now on both Android and iOS, which is a bit interesting to think that this feature wasn’t already there, but it is now.
For Chromebooks, Adobe has optimized the Lightroom Android app to work on this new interface, so that you can use the keyboard and trackpad for Lightroom on your Chromebook. This is going to make the experience better, although not quite as good as it would be on a traditional laptop like a Windows or macOS machine. It’s still a good alternative for those with a Chromebook that want to get some editing done with Lightroom. All of Lightrooms apps, on all platforms, are available now so make sure you update your app on the appropriate platform. Adobe Lightroom can be found through its site, as well as on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
