ARCHOS has unveiled the ARCHOS Diamond Omega, the newest addition to its lineup of high-end smartphones. This handset is a rebrand of the Nubia Z17S, and as a result, the ARCHOS Diamond Omega shares the same design and hardware components with the Chinese tech firm’s smartphone offering. The handset sports a 5.73-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2040 by 1080 and an aspect ratio of 17:9, resulting in a nearly bezel-less design. The screen occupies more than 85 percent of the front panel and it is protected from scratches by a sheet of the Corning Gorilla Glass. Above the display are the two selfie shooters and the earpiece while the back panel of the device contains the fingerprint scanner and the dual rear cameras.
Powering the ARCHOS Diamond Omega is the Snapdragon 835 chipset from Qualcomm, which is comprised of an octa-core Kryo 280 CPU and the Adreno 540 GPU. The handset also includes 8GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.1 internal flash storage. UFS 2.1 is one of the fastest internal storage standards available that can be incorporated into smartphones and it is used in a number of flagship handsets like the HTC U11 and the Samsung Galaxy S8. The device has two rear cameras, with one shooter equipped with a 23-megapixel Sony IMX318 sensor while the other snapper has a 12-megapixel Sony IMX362 sensor. The 23-megapixel rear camera has an aperture size of f/2.0 and it offers 2x lossless zoom while the 12-megapixel shooter sports an aperture of f/1.8 and it supports dual pixel technology, which improves the snapper’s ability to focus on small and moving subjects. The two front-facing cameras, on the other hand, both contain a 5-megapixel sensor, which should work together to create to blur the background of captured images.
The ARCHOS Diamond Omega contains a 3100mAh non-removable battery and it supports Quick Charge 3.0 for fast top-ups of the device. The handset does not have a headphone jack although the company includes a USB Type-C to 3.5mm audio jack adapter with every package. Software-wise, the device will ship with Android 7.1 Nougat pre-installed although Nubia UI 5.0 will run on top of Google’s operating system. This proprietary skin boasts of the NeoPower 3.0 power saving feature, which should add 3 more hours of battery life to the device according to the company. More details about the pricing and availability will likely be available soon.
