Detailed renders of both the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2018) and the Galaxy A7 (2018) have been leaked. These renders show that the mid-range handsets will have Infinity Displays, which have an aspect ratio of 18:9 and a resolution of 2160 by 1080 pixels. It is rumored that the Galaxy A5 (2018) will have a 5.5-inch screen while the Galaxy A7 (2018) will sport a 6-inch display. Due to the taller display, the fingerprint scanner will be moved to the back but this time, it is found directly below the single rear camera. This setup explains the elongated cutout at the back of protective cases designed for the two devices. Above the display, users may find the dual front-facing cameras, earpiece, and additional sensors. The power button and the grills for the loudspeaker will likely be located on the right-hand side of the smartphone while the opposite side contains the volume rocker and the SIM card slot. Both the headphone jack and the USB Type-C port are placed at the bottom part of the handset. The renders show that the mid-range handsets lack a dedicated Bixby button, but this does not mean that Samsung’s personal assistant will not be pre-installed on the devices since there has been a number of products from the South Korean manufacturer that incorporates the said assistant even if a dedicated button is not present. Like the manufacturer’s recent flagship products, both of the handsets sport a metal and glass construction.
The leak also stated that both the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2018) and the Galaxy A7 (2018) will be powered by the tech giant’s Exynos 7885 chipset. This SoC is said to contain two ARM Cortex A73 cores, four ARM Cortex A53 CPUs, and the Mali-G71 GPU, and it is fabricated using Samsung’s 10nm process node technology. The use of an advanced process node technology should improve the power-efficiency of the chipset due to reduced power consumption of the transistors. However, it is possible that there will be models of the two devices that will sport Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 processor, and it will likely be available in select markets.
Other features that will likely come with the handset is the support for Samsung Pay, the Always-On display, and IP68 water and dust resistance certification. Both devices are rumored to ship with Android 7.1.1 Nougat pre-installed, with the manufacturer’s proprietary skin running on top of Google’s operating system. Samsung is expected to launch the devices in early 2018, and more information about the two products will likely be available at that time.
