Facebook has formally rolled out a new feature of its core mobile app that allows you to order food from a wide selection of restaurants and pick up your order or have it delivered to your doorstep. Alex Himel, vice president of Local at Facebook, announced on Friday that the new feature offers several options for restaurants from where you can directly place your order, including Papa John’s, Wingstop, Panera, TGI Friday’s, Denny’s, El Pollo Loco, Chipotle, and Jimmy John’s. In addition to direct orders, some restaurants also accept food orders via Delivery.com, DoorDash, ChowNow, Zuppler, EatStreet, Slice, and Olo.
The new feature can be accessed via the “Order Food” section found in the Explore menu of the app. The new section displays a variety of food options which you can purchase by clicking on the “Start Order” button once you have decided on what to eat. Keep in mind, though, that you need to sign up first with the food ordering service within the Facebook app if you have not set up an account yet before you can start searching for restaurants. Then you can choose a takeout or delivery service method with which you can get your food. The new feature is supposed to make things easy for those who frequently visit the social networking site to look for restaurants or food ordering services to buy food. Instead of having you search through a long list of multiple places like you used to do in the past, the food ordering feature now helps you find what food you are looking for in just a few simple clicks using the Facebook mobile app. There is also an option to see reviews by others in order to gain insights into a restaurant before placing your order.
The Order Food option began showing up for some users last May on both the mobile and desktop versions of Facebook. Himel says the feature has been in testing since 2016 and is now officially available for download on Android and other platforms in the United States, though it remains unclear when and if the Menlo Park, California-based social media giant plans to roll out the feature to other territories.
