The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 has been in the works for quite some time now and has even previously had its user manual leaked, but now there is an alleged render and new information to go along with the rumors. Moreover, the latest leak comes with some information that seems to refute at least some of the earlier suggestions regarding the internals of the device, while confirming others. If the render turns out to be accurate, the Galaxy Tab Active 2 has had only a minor redesign in terms of aesthetics. Although the new rounded corners should help against drops and the reworked buttons should be easier to use, the real changes are on the inside.
For starters, Prying away at what will reportedly be an 8-inch TFT LCD display, featuring a 1,280 by 800 resolution) could reveal a Samsung-built Exynos 7880 SoC. That’s in conflict with earlier reports which suggested the device would come with an Exynos 7870. Although that is, admittedly, a small bump in processor technology, the SoC will allegedly be clocked at 1.6 GHz and backup up by 3 GB of RAM. Those previous reports also hinted at an octa-core setup for that processor. Meanwhile, users will purportedly have 16 GB of microSD expandable storage to play around with. Those are already respectable specifications for a ruggedized, mid-range Android tablet but the new leak goes further to point to a 4,450 mAh removable battery that previous reports have suggested will be charged through a multipurpose USB Type-C port. It will also allegedly come with one of Samsung’s popular S-Pen accessories. Both of those things are likely to be huge selling points for this tablet, which is expected to include a POGO pin receiver and dedicated SDK included for corporate customers. Better still, the device is said to include Bluetooth 4.2 support, LTE networking, and a fingerprint reader built into the home button on the front. The leak seems to confirm earlier rumors that the device would come with a flash-enabled 8-megapixel rear shooter and a 5-megapixel selfie camera, as well. All of that is rumored to be driven by Android 7.1.1 (Nougat), out of the box.
It’s important to remember that any or all of the information included here should be viewed through a speculative lens. Although many of the rumors surrounding the next progression of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab Active appear to line up, Samsung itself has not made an official reveal yet. Bearing that in mind, the new leak’s hinted price point of around $500 to $600 USD does seem to be in line with the overall features, size, and hardware included in the rumored package. In any case, since the device has already hit the FCC and the user manual has already leaked, Samsung will likely announce something official soon and bring an end to all of the guesswork about its newest tablet.
