Google Now Fighting Global Hunger With Android IAPs

Google is celebrating the World Food Day with a new initiative meant to fight global hunger through the unlikely medium of in-app purchases on Android devices. From today until Saturday, October 21st, all proceeds made from purchases in select apps found on the Google Play Store will be donated to World Food Program USA, a non-government organization from Washington D.C. seeking to prevent starvation in all corners of the world. The NGO has a history of collaborating with large companies and lawmakers across the United States in order to promote its goals and its partnership with Google appears to be the latest step in those efforts.

Google’s initiative encompasses 12 Android apps and games spanning a variety of categories, all of which already proved to be popular in their respective genres. Dragon City, Cooking Fever, and Legendary: Game of Heroes are participating in the charitable event, as are Rodeo Stampede: Sky Zoo Safari, Marvel Contest of Champions, and Peak–Brain Games & Training. Jurassic World: The Game and Transformers: Forged to Fight are also donating all proceeds from their IAPs for the next five days together with Animation Throwdown: TQFC and developers behind My Cafe: Recipes & Stories – World Cooking Game. Sling Kong and ShareTheMeal–Help children are the final two apps through which you can support the global fight against starvation by the end of the working week.

If none of the participating apps and their respective IAPs pique your interest, you’re still able to donate directly to World Food Program USA and its initiative by referring to the banner below. The NGO also directly supports the UN World Food Programme by contributing resources and manpower to feed families in all parts of the world, according to its website. The WFP’s recent estimates put every ninth person on the planet as going to bed on an empty stomach every day, which is a problem that the agency is seeking to eliminate through a variety of means, including digital partnerships like the newly announced one with Google. The Mountain View, California-based tech giant and its parent Alphabet are no strangers to charitable initiatives and often participated in such endeavors in the past, with their latest related move coming earlier this month when the newly incorporated Loon division started providing internet access to the disaster-stricken Puerto Rico in the aftermath of the devastating Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
