New Possible Samsung Galaxy J2 Revision Sighted As SM-J250G

A Samsung-made device that’s likely to be a revision of the Galaxy J2 (2017) was spotted in the database of mobile benchmarking tool GFXBench earlier this month, having been identified as bearing the model number SM-J250G. With the regular Galaxy J2 being known as the SM-J200G, the newly sighted handset may be marketed with a “Prime” or “Pro” moniker, with the letter “G” suggesting that this may be a single-SIM variant of the device, especially since the benchmark itself also didn’t identify a secondary SIM card tray.

The basic specs and CPU performance listed by GFXBench give more credence to the possibility that the SM-J250G is a low-end offering meant to compete in the entry-level segment of the market, with the handset apparently being equipped with the Snapdragon 425, a Qualcomm-made SoC which debuted in early 2016 and has been commercialized within smartphones like the Xiaomi Redmi 5A, Huawei Enjoy 7, LG K20, and the ZTE Blade Spark. The quad-core silicon is clocked at a maximum operating frequency of 1.4GHz and comes equipped with the Adreno 308 GPU. The same listing also suggests that the SM-J250G features 1.5GB of RAM which will be coupled by 16GB of storage space expandable via a microSD card. The smartphone was tested as running Android 7.1.1 Nougat, likely enhanced with Samsung’s proprietary mobile software suite – Samsung Experience. The SM-J250G will apparently feature a 5-inch screen with a qHD resolution of 960 by 540 pixels amounting to a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9. Its rear camera is said to be an 8-megapixel unit, whereas its top bezel will apparently feature a 5-megapixel module, with only the former being accompanied by an unspecified flash.

As this appears to be an entry-level Android smartphone, it’s not surprising that GFXBench wasn’t able to confirm the existence of NFC support and a heart rate monitor seeing how the handset is extremely unlikely to feature such capabilities. A Samsung-made offering with the same model number was also tested by Geekbench earlier this month, with that listing being significantly less comprehensive than the GFXBench one and presenting matching information in regards to the OS version, amount of RAM, and the SoC powering the device. The South Korean tech giant may launch the SM-J250G in select markets by the end of the year, with the Android phone being likely to hit certain developing countries.
