HMD Global’s Nokia 8 Android flagship officially launched in India on Friday and is set to go on sale tomorrow, priced at Rs. 36,999, or just under $570. The smartphone will be available for purchase on Amazon India which apparently managed to secure it as an online exclusive, though numerous wireless carriers and offline retailers across the South Asian country are also set to offer it, including Reliance, BigC, Croma, and Poorvika. Jio is offering the smartphone alongside an offer of up to 100GB of extra mobile data, with each recharge of at least Rs. 309 ($4.75) netting you extra 10GB of data free for a maximum of ten times. This particular offer is only available to (future) Nokia 8 owners and applies to recharges made until August 31st, 2018.
The Nokia 8 will be available in Steel, Tempered Blue, and Polished Blue in India from tomorrow, whereas its Polished Copper model is said to be released in the country in the coming weeks, presumably by mid-November. Being the first flagship in the brand‘s post-Microsoft era, the Nokia 8 strives to deliver high-end specs in a sturdy body at a relatively affordable price, featuring the Qualcomm-made Snapdragon 835 SoC and 4GB of RAM. Unlike almost every other premium Android smartphone on the market, the Nokia 8 isn’t a tablet and instead offers a relatively compact 5.3-inch LCD panel with a QHD resolution of 2,560 by 1,440 pixels amounting to a high pixel density of 554ppi. The 16:9 screen of the device is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 and the phone also ships with 64GB of UFS 2.1 memory expandable by up to 256GB via a microSD card slot. Two 13-megapixel cameras found on the rear panel of the flagship are accompanied by a dual-LED flash, whereas the (regularly sized) top bezel of the device houses another 13-megapixel sensor, with both camera setups being made by Zeiss Optics.
The Nokia 8 is the latest handset from the Finnish brand to make its way to India following relatively successful launches of numerous feature phones and aggressively priced Android models like the Nokia 6. The company previously went as far as to state that its success in India will forecast its global endeavors and seemingly continues pursuing commercial opportunities in the South Asian country.
