A new color option is now available for the Sony Xperia XZ Premium, and the Japanese smartphone manufacturer dubs this variant as Rosso. Both the front and the back panels of the handset are red, while the power button is colored in black. Aside from the changes in the colors, the design and the specifications of the smartphone remains the same. The shutter button, the power button, and the volume rocker are all located on the right-hand side of the device while the front of the handset contains two front-facing speakers.
The handset is powered by the Snapdragon 835 chipset from Qualcomm, which contains an octa-core Kryo CPU with a maximum frequency of 2.45GHz and the Adreno 540 GPU. The SoC includes a modem that supports Category 16 downlink LTE and it can take advantage of cellular technologies like 4x carrier aggregation and 256-QAM data modulation. The Sony Xperia XZ Premium sports a 4K Triluminos display although most of the time, the content is rendered in 1080p in an effort to reduce power consumption. The smartphone offers 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal flash storage that can be expanded using a microSD card. The rear camera is equipped with a 19-megapixel custom Exmor RS IMX300 sensor with an aperture size of f/2.0, 5-axis optical image stabilization (OIS) and Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF). It is capable of capturing 1080p slow-motion video with a frame rate of 960fps. The front-facing camera, on the other hand, has a 13-megapixel shooter with a 22-millimeter wide-angle lens and an aperture size of f/2.0.
A 3,230mAh battery is incorporated into the device, and it supports Quick Charge 3.0 for fast top-ups. Also included is the support for Qnovo adaptive charging, which uses software algorithms to improve the lifespan of the smartphone’s battery. Sony utilizes machine learning to provide suggestions and predictive settings that may further improve the battery life of the handset. Android 7.1 Nougat is pre-installed with the device, although Sony’s custom UI runs on top of Google’s operating system. It is likely that the handset will get Android 8.0 Oreo in December 2017, with additional features like smile prefetching and 3D creator app. In the United States, the Rosso variant of the Sony Xperia XZ Premium will be available on Amazon, Best Buy, and other select stores starting November 10, and it will cost the buyer $699.99.
