More Google Home Mini details hinted at in FCC listing

Speculation that Google would introduce a “mini” version of its Google Home smart speaker began circulating recently, and it was tipped to be a $49 competitor to the Amazon Echo Dot. A couple of days ago, we got a potential first look at the device, and now, a recent Federal Communications Commission filing (via DroidLife) has added more weight to the rumors.

While the listing doesn’t include the Google Home Mini name, it shares a number similarities with the original Google Home speaker filing, including its unique FCC ID — “A4RH0A,” similar to the Google Home’s “A4RH0ME” — and its description as a “media streaming device.”

An image of the label location also suggests this is a round-bottomed device, as you would expect, though it lacks the power connector cutout like on the bottom of the original Google Home. It’s possible that the power cable simply connects to the side of the Google Home Mini, however.

Other tidbits include 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi connectivity as well as Bluetooth LE, though the listing doesn’t offer anything in the way of what the device would offer in terms of functionality.

If the filing does indeed pertain to the Google Home Mini, it seems pretty likely that it will be unveiled at the upcoming Google event on October 4 and released soon after. These FCC listings are rarely far away from an official product release.
