Top 5 flagship phones coming to India this year

Looking back at year 2017, one can actually see some intriguing smartphones that redefine the way we looked at them. While bezel-less was the top design trend among the OEMs, dual-cameras have made their way to more phones and Snapdragon 835 has also slipped in between to be the driver for all the high-end phone till now. So, there is a whole bunch of new features and hardware advancements that carving out the mightiest smartphones till date. While companies like Samsung went on to come up with a phone having 6GB RAM, OnePlus went insane to put a whopping 8GB in it’s OnePlus 5 smartphone. These are just petty examples of what we have seen so far in 2017, but there’s a lot more mind-boggling stuff coming our way by the end of this year.

While companies like Samsung, LG and Sony have already placed their cards on the deck, biggies like Apple and Google are yet to reveal their trump cards. The global launch of the upcoming iPhone is confirmed for September 12 but there are still some flagship handsets that are en route to India. In this article, we have listed the top 5 flagship smartphone that are yet to be launched in India this year.

Mi Mix 2

Xiaomi unveiled the Mi Mix 2 on September 11 in China. Soon after unveiling the phone, the company Senior VP confirmed that the phone will be coming to Indian market. A lot of us wanted the phone to make it to India last year as well, but due to some reasons, the company restricted it only to China markets.

The Mi MIX 2, uses a 5.99-inch display with Full HD+ resolution and DCI-P3 support. It features a four-sided curved ceramic body, giving it a distinct premium look and feel.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835processor, with a clock speed of up to 2.45GHz. It is coupled with 6GB LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB, 128GB or 256GB UFS 2.1 storage. Additionally, Xiaomi also announced that the Mi MIX 2 will come in a special edition with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage.

The phone comes with a 12-megapixel camera on the back with a Sony IMX386 sensor, 1.25um pixel size and f/2.0 aperture. The rear camera is assisted by a dual tone LED flash, 4-axis OIS and supports 4K video recording. On the front, the Mi MIX 2 comes with a 5MP camera with facial recognition support.

To recall, Mi MIX was the reason why majority of OEMs fell for the bezelless fashion and started working on their respective designs. If you look at phones like LG G6, Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 8, Essential Phone and allegedly the iPhone 8, it’s quite obvious that Mi MIX had its impact over the design of these phones. Well, technically Sharp Aquos came even before the Mi MIX but never got into such limelight, so the credit obviously goes to Xiaomi for this.

Although the Mi MIX did not make it to India last time, it is now confirmed that the company will bring the flagship in India sometime in October. It’s pretty obvious that the Mi MIX 2 is much better, mightier and feels more like a usable smartphone.

2. Nokia 8

The Nokia 8 is one of the best phones on the market right now, it offers a lot of  features you expect from a great device in a well designed package with tons of nostalgia. It comes with a good camera setup, some additional features unlike mid-range siblings such as the #Bothie mode and the design looks flush complimenting the gorgeous QHD display on the front of the handset.

Out of all the Nokia phone launched till date, this one is one is the closest to what Nokia was always known for. Somehow, Nokia has managed to sneak in all the essentials in the phone but it still feels short of a stand out feature. Still, if you like the design, want a QHD display and need a Carl Zeiss powered dual camera with a smooth stock Android experience then this one suits your need perfectly. Otherwise, you can go for a OnePlus 5 if you are looking for a cheaper alternative.

Nokia 8 is confirmed to launch in India on September 26, it would be interesting to see what kind of response it gets from the fans and how much will it cost in the country. Read more about Nokia 8 here.

3. LG V30

LG has always impressed with its V series since it’s born, be it the multimedia features or the amazing camera capabilities packed along with great processing prowess. For us, it’s always the LG’s UI that has been a cause of concern. With V30, LG has turned the game around with the design, camera, multimedia and tons of unique productivity features.

It comes in a glass sandwich design that is the first in the series along with a POLED display which comes with QHD resolution. It is a cinematographer’s phone with amazing manual video and cinematography skills, which leverages the dual 16-megapixel camera setup with a stunning f/1.6 aperture (first in its class) and a wide-angle lens. This time around, LG has got rid of its physical secondary display, and replaced it with a software tweak. The phone this time comes with waterproofing and is MIL-STD 810G compliant to withstand against accidental drops and enhanced durability.

There is a lot to talk about this phone but we’ll keep it brief in this post. If you want go dive deep into nitty gritty about it, you can head over to this link. The smartphone is expected to arrive in India either in late October or early November, which will be confirmed later by the company.

The latest from Apple is now official and most of the details are similar to what the leaks suggested. The new iPhone X is the costliest iPhone till date, and looks like a fresh update after years. The phone marks Apple's tenth anniversary, hence the 'X' in the name.

The new Apple phone as expected comes with a bezelless display with a surgical-grade stainless steel frame around the body and comes with called 'Face ID', which replaces the fingerprint sensor. As speculated, the phone has a 5.8-inch OLED screen (Super Retina) that stretches from edge to edge. Apple has gone all-glass on the new iPhone and reposition the dual camera setup into a horizontal setup. Also, it retains the IP68 certification to stay void of water and dust.

The new iPhone comes with wireless charging technology, being the first iPhone to come with this capability. As there's no home button, Apple has added new swipe gestures to navigate through the interface.

The iPhone X will be available from Nov 3rd with a starting price of Rs 89,000 for 64GB and the 128GB promises to put a hole in the pocket at Rs. 1,02,000.

5. Pixel 2

Similar to iPhone 8, the flagship from Google is also based only on rumours till now. The phone is said to come with a bezel-less display like most other flagships of 2017 and also have the latest Snapdragon 836 processor from Qualcomm. Noted leaker Evan Blass suggests the Google Pixel 2 will launch on October 5, 2017.

It is also rumoured that the Pixel 2 will be dropping the 3.5mm headphone jack, so this may be the right time to invest on a good pair of wireless headphones.

Recently, the purported Pixel 2 has shown up in the flesh, seeming to confirm some design elements we've seen, as well as that the big bezels are likely to stay there for some more time.

Last but not least, the Pixel 2 has surfaced in a regulatory filing, confirming rumored features like the squeeze-friendly "Active Edge" function like the HTC U11.
