Google has introduced a few fresh security tools meant to help keep your online accounts secure from unauthorized access and hacking attempts. The first security solution is not entirely new, as it comes in the form of a revamped Security Checkup that has been in place for quite some time now, though the update brings with it a host of new capabilities to identify security vulnerabilities in your Google account.
The updated Security Checkup works to provide pieces of advice to you in order to help you learn the ways to maintain, if not beef up, the security of your account. Before, the security solution provided a generic guidance to users, which did not help to solve all security-related problems of individual user accounts. The revamped Security Checkup is designed to now deliver a more personalized checklist that aims to help address specific data security issues faced by a user. The personal security monitoring tool works to display a yellow exclamation point to indicate that at least one security issue has been detected in your account. The warning also means that you need to take immediate action on the security issue in question to keep things from getting out of control. When a red exclamation point is displayed, however, there is a strong indication that a critical security risk is posing a threat to your account and you need to take the matter very seriously. As security threats keep evolving, the Mountain View, California-based search giant vows to continuously beef up the Security Checkup tool in order to stay ahead of the game.
Another new security solution unveiled by Google is a predictive anti-phishing tool designed for its Chrome browser. The new phishing protections build upon Google’s years of experience monitoring and identifying sites that host phishing schemes using its Safe Browsing tool. At this point, Google says it is currently testing the new security solution so that the internet giant aims to add another layer of protection to your account in the future every time you enter your password in Google’s login page. The goal is to ensure that you are not typing your password in a phishing site. Later on, Google plans to expand that capability to different browsers other than Chrome to ensure maximum account security in all circumstances.
